Worlds of Existentialism: A Critical Reader
Published in Paperback by Humanity Books (April, 1991)
Authors: Maurice Friedman and Delmar Publishers
Average review score:

Excellent selections from existentialist literature
This was my bible during college. If you're on a search, given to deep thinking, and want exposure to many existentialist perspectives, this is you're book. I really care about these subjects, and read the book for my own edification. But the added benefit was the fertile ground of ideas it offered for term papers, etc. The book is laid out in sections -- precursors to existentialism, religious, atheist, psycological perspectives, etc, and offers brief selections from a great many authors. So one does not need to read this book page by page but instead can jump around. This is a great book.

Assisting in Long Term Care
Published in Paperback by Delmar Publishers (05 September, 2001)
Authors: Joan Fritsch Needham, Delmar Publishers, and Barbara R. Hegner
Average review score:

Assisting in Long-Term Care third edition
The authors seem to out do themselves with each new edition that comes to press. Most text books are out of date before they go to press and certainly before the instructors can make their lesson plans for the students. By the instructor using the work book and the guide with this text you will have an unbeatable combination. Simple language and the technical blend and the student is able to comprehend with minimum difficulty. The previous editions have retired to become reference texts and so will the Third Edition when the Fourth Edition becomes available for this Instructor of a Certified Nursing Assistant Class at our local Technical College.

ASSISTING IN LONG-TERM CARE
I am using this textbook for a CNA course. I looked it over before registering for the class and the textbook attracted me to the course. It is colorful, well-organized, and thorough. I was impressed with the range of topics covered and variety of ways material is presented and re-enforced. The study aides and headings are easy to use and it is easy to read. I would recommend this book to anyone who will be working with the elderly in a long-term care setting.

A well written text.
I have been using Demar's Standard Textbook of Electricity for the past five years. This book is our primary text for the first three months of a 10 month, 5 days per week, 7 hours per day Industrial Electricity Course. Student feedback is uniformly positive.

good intro& basics book on electricity and basic electronics
Excellent textbook. Presented in a textbook format with plenty of pictures, easy to read and understand. Linear learning curve. Explains ins and outs of electronics and electricity basics, easy math (no two-page formula derivations!). I found it a great resource for brushing up for my electronics tech certification. Recomend to anyone who wants to know how electricity operates, with references to real life. Straight to the point (thorough basics, and minimum fuss).

Essential Cook: Everything You Really Need to Know About Foods and Cooking
Published in Paperback by Hill House Pub Co (October, 1991)
Authors: Charles Delmar, Ronald Grauer, and John Bergez
Average review score:

A "Joy of Cooking" of cooking techniques and practices.
I've had this book for years, and I am constantly returning to it. Not only does it have a sound foundation of classic techniques, but it covers all aspects of dining, from how to plan a menu, to preparation of all kinds of ingredients, to setting the table, to basic sanitation and kitchen organization. It really is like a "Joy of Cooking" of cooking techniques.

Fantastic reference guide.
Outstanding reference for beginners or experienced cooks. Covers everything about basic cooking techniques, sanitation and planning. Takes very basic "core" type recipes and offers suggestions for hundreds of variations. Out of print and hard to find, but well worth the effort. I recommend it highly.

Essentials of Health Services (Delmar Series in Health Services Administration)
Published in Paperback by Delmar Publishers (06 December, 1994)
Authors: Stephens J. Williams and Stephen J. Williams
Average review score:

A good overview of Today's Health Services
This book provides an easy to read compilation of the important factors that influence today's health care services. It compares national and international health care systems. Emphasis is placed on health care economics. Health care for designated populations such as ambulatory clients, long term care clients & mental health clients is addressed. There is a strong chapter on health care policy and heatlh care planning.

GREAT BOOK!
This book has a ton of information on the essentials of health care. Stuff like the difference between HMO, PPO, and POS. It also has some very informative graphs. It is divided in three parts (1) An Overview of Health Care in the United States, (2) The Resourses for Providing Care, and (3) Paying for, Managing, controlling, and Evaluating the System. All in all I give it 5 stars.

Taking Up Riding As an Adult (Horse-Wise Guides Series)
Published in Paperback by Storey Books (November, 1998)
Author: Diana Delmar
Average review score:

Great Introduction to Riding
I'm 43, and I bought this book after I'd been riding for a year, because I wanted to go over the basics again and make sure that I was doing things right! (I was pleased to find out that I am, thanks to a great instructor/school horse/farm.) I especially like the way the author stresses safety while also noting that, while accidents will happen, it's very unlikely that you'll be seriously injured--IF you ride safely.

Another thing I like is that she plays up the social/fun aspects of riding. While I'm sure there are "horsey snobs," I've not yet met any here in Knoxville, and have found other riders to be friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic. If you love horses & riding, you're "in the club"; there's no need to be bashful about being a beginning adult rider!

This is a great little book, and I recommend it to any adult who's new to riding or thinking about learning how to ride.

Excellent and helpful
This book is well worth the price. It provides and excellent overview to the entire equestrian sport. Illustrations are clear; photographs, while not in color, are helpful (not just decorations); the copy is concise. The author has excellent knowledge of the sport and command of the english language. This book is great for any adult looking to take up the sport or parent seeking to better understand his/her child's passion.

COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH BETTER
I have little UNIX or Solaris experience, so for me this book provided a spotty overview of the Solaris 8 O/S. It didn't provide an overall perspective of Solaris, tying all the pieces together to form a complete picture. It would have been great if the authors listed out the applications that come with Solaris (there are a truck load); it would have been even better if they detailed some of them. For those of us that don't have time to read through an author's opinions, this text leaves much to be desired.

Great Book for beginer's and a Excellent reference for Pro's
Great Book for beginner's and a Excellent reference for Pro's.
The chapter to chapter sequence is just right for the topic(Solaris).

Like a good expresso
Hi

If you have basic Unix knowledge and If you want learn to how to manage a Solaris box, you have to buy it.

Good introduction for Solaris Administration.

Best Way to Train Your Gun Dog: The Delmar Smith Method
Published in Hardcover by David McKay Co (June, 1977)
Authors: Bill. Tarrant and Jack Samson
Average review score:

First-rate, a classic, the "bible" of bird dog training.
Bill Tarrant followed Delmar Smith around the world for years studying his dog training methods before writing this book. As the Gun Dog Editor for Field and Stream, and as a man who had interviewed every sporting dog trainer in America, Tarrant knew Smith to be the the best dog trainer alive. Tarrant was amazed at Smith's gentle and country-wise methods that worked without hitting, striking or kicking the dog, or in any other way hurting him or dampening the dog's enthusiasm. Smith's comtemporaries in the field of bird dog training were known for their common use of brute force to train dogs. Delmar Smith says of his inhumane peers, "People who've gotta use those things don't have no fertilizer in their plot. They're stunted." Tarrant goes on to say, "And that's why Delmar's the best friend a dog ever had. He's proven a humane trainer can win on a sometimes inhumane circuit. ... Delmar figures God put dogs here to work--and man! Getting them to work together is Delmar's genius." The many reprintings of this book since it's original appearance in 1977 proves Tarrant's assessment of Smith is correct: "In every game there's a man who knows it all. And in every game there's a man who tells all he knows. How rare to find both men one and the same. We do in Delmar." Multitudes of dog owners use this book as their "bible." Copies of the book that are old, page worn and falling apart from constant use, are often presented to Delmar for his autograph at his kennels in Edmond, Oklahoma, or in his travels around the Country. The book is delightful, full of humor and insight into Delmar Smith, a genuine character and great lover of animals; and a man of incalculable wisdom about the natural world. A must read for all bird dog owners, and for anyone who wants to know more about a dog's natural ability to search and find, and to work at complex tasks with a human partner.

Best Way to Train Your Dog : The Delmar Smith Method
I hunt quail in South Texas with pointers and setters. Next fall will mark my 35th hunting year; hunting behind birddogs. I currently own 3 Elhew pointers and 2 English Setters. Over the last 35 years I have had the pleasure to share my life and quail hunting adventures with well over 40 dogs, mostly pointers. Mr. Tarrant has put into words the wisdom of a man who not only understands birddogs but reinforces the common sense psycology of dog training. This book explains exactly what every bird hunter who hunts over a brace of dogs needs to read each year prior to bird season. Not only are the methods humane they are eaisly understood by the dog, which is the most important element in dog training and bird hunting. Mr. Delmar Smith is to dog training as what Thomas Edision was to the light bulb. I wish Delmar was still conducting training seminars; the next best thing is reading this book !

The best book ever written on gin dog training bar none
I am professional dog trainer and I use this book like a minister uses a Bible. I keep one with me at all times and have them available for my customers to buy and even offer it for sale through amazon.com on my Web Site. I have read almost every book on dog training and Delmar Smith and Bill Tarrant make more sense than anyone, about the right way to train a gun dog. Bill Tarrant does an excellent job of writing and makes the information easy to understand and apply. I use the principals taught in this book everyday in my training program. If you want to train a gun dog or keep an already trained on sharp this is THE book to buy. Bill offers Delmar's training methods in a way anyone can understand and apply. The thing I like the most is I agree almost everything In this book. It takes a common sense approach to dog training and that's all dog training really is. Using common sense to teach a dog what you want. Delmar's three principals are ones I live by. To train a d! og you need three things; Point of contact, association, and repetition. The first time I read that I realized Delmar Smith had the answer of how to effectively train any gun dog. I own all of Bill Tarrant's books, but this is one I read over and over and the one I recommend without reservation.

Delmar's Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam Review
Published in Paperback by Delmar Publishers (06 July, 1999)
Author: Patricia K. Anthony
Average review score:

So MANY errors!
This would have been a great tech review if it weren't for the NUMEROUS typographical errors present! In one chapter alone I found 5 math typos!! Its pretty bad when you can't trust your answer page to be correct! The information learned from this text book would have been so much more helpful if I hadn't had to spend so much time decifering their errors! I wish someone would have proof read this before it went to print! Luckily I have a great pharmacist willing to quiz me so hopefully I can still pass! If I'd had to depend only on this book I would be in some serious trouble! And for as much as this darn thing costs, you'd think they could at least have gotten the "solutions for problems" right!! Look into getting a different review book--not this one! Its not worth the money!

A MUST for pharmacy certification exam review
This text is an excellent review text. It is written for persons all levels of experience - quick study guides allow the student to skip what he or she is already familiar with, and detailed chapters are included for those who are not familiar with subjects. Questions or problems at the end of each chapter are answered in detail, to allow the student to see what the examiner is looking for and hopefully duplicate it for the exam, rather than simply designating the correct answer and leaving the student to guess why their answer was incorrect. This is really key, as a large part of the success on the exam is understanding what the question is asking and what the examiner wants to know.

Other salient features include a pre-test, to allow the student to pinpoint weaknesses and prioritize study, a sample certification exam, which is written to duplicate the exam in both style and content, and a very large and detailed section on pharmacy math, which includes every type of calculation which might appear on the exam, and as a practice math test. Since the lack of ability to solve math problems is a primary reason why students fail the exam, this is an excellent preparation aid. The text also teaches the student to think and understand, which is necessary for the exam, as it is not all regurgitation of material - you have to know how to USE and apply the material.

All relevant subjects are covered and discussed in detail. An excellent buy for the money, for students of pharmacy technology - and expecially for technicians trained in a retail pharmacy who may be lacking in hospital pharmacy.

This text could even be used as for a pharmacy technology quick study course, or self study course as it is quite complete.

A Must for Certification Review
This book has everything that you need to pass the certification exam. Prescriptions, filling, labelling, record keeping, OSHA, computers and law are all covered thoroughly. There are also chapters on pharmacology and ten chapters on math [the book covers almost every type of dosage calculation very thorougly]. Everything is explained exceptionally well, and is easy to understand. Review questions at the end of each chapter are asked, answered, and explained in detail, so that you understand how to answer questions and do the calculations for the exam. It explains "why", and helps you to understand and apply the information. Each chapter has a "quick study" guide for easy reviewing. There is a "pre-test" to help prioritize study and pinpoint weak points, and a mock certification exam, which follows the format of the exam, and includes questions very similar to the questions appearing on the exam. Helpful hints for taking the exam and answering questions are also included. This book is a must, especially for retail techs [a lot of hospital pharmacy is included], and particularly for understanding the math.
